How to use it

  1. Drop your HEIC photos into the box above, or tap the button to pick them from your device.
  2. Wait a moment while each photo is converted. Large photos take a few seconds.
  3. Download each JPG, or download everything at once as a ZIP file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the image format iPhones and iPads have used for photos since iOS 11 in 2017. It stores a photo in a smaller file than JPG at similar visual quality, which saves storage space on the phone. The catch is compatibility. Many Windows programs, older Android phones, websites and print services cannot open HEIC files, so you often need to turn them into JPG first.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

JPG is the format nearly every device and app understands. Convert to JPG when you want to upload photos to a form, send them to someone who cannot open HEIC, edit them in older software, or print them at a shop.

The JPG file will usually be larger than the HEIC original, because JPG compresses less efficiently. The quality slider under Options lets you trade a little quality for a smaller file.

How this converter works

Everything happens in your browser. The page loads a small decoder the first time you drop a HEIC file, reads the photo on your device, and saves it as a JPG. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe to use with private photos, and it works for large batches without waiting on a server.

The converted JPG does not carry over metadata such as GPS location or camera details. That is helpful when you want to share a photo without revealing where it was taken, but it also means the capture date is not stored inside the new file.

Stop saving photos as HEIC on your iPhone

If you would rather skip conversion, open Settings, choose Camera, then Formats, and select Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you have already taken stay HEIC, which is where this tool helps.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to our server or to anyone else. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: the network tab shows no image data leaving the page.

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. There is no charge, no account, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you convert.

Can I convert many HEIC files at once?

Yes. Select or drop several files and they are converted one after another. When there is more than one result, a button appears to download them all as a single ZIP file.

Why is my JPG bigger than the HEIC photo?

HEIC compresses photos more efficiently than JPG, so a JPG of the same picture is normally larger. Lower the quality slider under Options if you need a smaller file.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on phones and on computers. Very large photos can be slow on older phones.
