Why WebP images do not open everywhere
WebP is an image format created by Google for websites. It makes pages load faster because the files are small. When you save a picture from a web page you often end up with a .webp file, and some editors, older versions of Windows and upload forms refuse to open it. Converting to JPG solves that.
What happens to transparency
WebP can store transparent areas, but JPG cannot. When a transparent WebP is converted, the clear areas are filled with a solid color. White is the default. Open Options to pick a different background color before you convert.
Quality and file size
JPG is a lossy format, so each conversion applies compression. The default quality of 92 percent keeps images looking the same to most eyes. Lower the slider for smaller files, or raise it to the top for the closest match to the original. Animated WebP files are converted as a still image of the first frame.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to our server or to anyone else. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: the network tab shows no image data leaving the page.
Is converting WebP to JPG free?
Yes, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Will my transparent WebP turn black?
No. Transparent areas are filled with the background color from Options, which is white by default.
Do animated WebP images keep their animation?
No. JPG cannot hold animation, so you get a still image of the first frame.
