How to use it

  1. Drop your JPG images into the box, or choose them from your device.
  2. Set the quality under Options. 80 is a good start.
  3. Download the WebP files one by one or as a ZIP.

Why use WebP

WebP is an image format made for the web. At similar visual quality its files are usually smaller than JPG, so pages load faster and use less data. All current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari can show WebP images.

Choosing a quality

The quality slider controls the trade between size and detail. Around 75 to 85 keeps most photos looking the same as the original. Lower numbers make smaller files with more visible softness, so check a sample before converting a whole batch.

When to keep the JPG

Some older software, email programs and print shops still do not accept WebP. If the picture has to work everywhere, keep a JPG copy. Because your JPG is already compressed, converting it makes a second lossy pass, so keep the original file too.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The work runs inside your browser on your own device. Your files are never sent to our server or to anyone else. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: the network tab shows no file data leaving the page.

How much smaller will the WebP be?

It depends on the picture and the quality setting. Often it is noticeably smaller than the JPG. Compare the sizes shown after conversion.

Will quality drop?

A little, since both formats are lossy. At 80 percent the difference is usually hard to see.

Why does my browser say it cannot save WebP?

Very old versions of Safari cannot create WebP files. Use a current version of Chrome, Firefox or Edge.
